MEXICO: López Obrador declares himself president

On 20 November, Revolution Day, Andrés Manuel López Obrador declared himself "legitimate president" of Mexico. The ceremony in Mexico City's main square, the Zócalo, drew a crowd that López Obrador's supporters claim numbered over 1m, though independent observers reckon the true figure was closer to 100,000. López Obrador again claimed that he had been cheated of victory in the presidential election on 2 July "by a neo-fascist conspiracy."
